Years ago, I met a remarkable man named Norm, We were attending the same church at the time. Norm was the epitome of kindness and a devoted Christian throughout his life. He diligently fulfilled his duties, providing for his family and cherishing a marriage that spanned over five decades.
His life seemed perfectly orchestrated, and I imagined he was reaping the benefits of his dedication. Yet, one day, Norm shared a startling revelation with me – he felt a divine calling to journey to Saudi Arabia and become a martyr for his faith in Jesus.
At this point, Norm was in his 80s, with his beloved wife still by his side. I was speechless. His belief was so profound that he began to share it with everyone around him. Even after we left that church, Norm continued to serve with unwavering faith, and to my knowledge, he never embarked on that perilous journey.
I’ve heard it said, “Our hearts can be right, but our heads can be wrong.”
Sometimes, we hold onto powerful convictions that may or may not be valid anymore. I’ve also heard it said “When the horse is dead,it’s time to dismount”.
Is there a dream or goal you’ve been longing to pursue that needs adjusting, refining or eliminating? It may not be as dramatic as Norm’s, but whatever it is we only have an allotted amount of time to get it done.
What are your thoughts? Have you checked in with God lately? I love the verse in Matt 6:6 that says “But when you pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you”.
