Gambling or Faith – your choice…

Kenny Rogers sang in the song the Gambler “You’ve got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away, know when to run” as well as other pearls of wisdom. It’s a great song, and everyone l talk to seems to know it.

What makes it great l wonder?

Well in part it must hold a universal truth somewhere, regardless of whether or not you actually gamble. One way or another l reckon we all gamble through life. We gamble by committing to an idea, or a job or a spouse till death do us part, or to an invisible God. Now in church circles we exchange the word ‘gamble’ to ‘faith’. I think we all understand that life is never full of certainties, whether you’re a believer or now. Hebrews 11:1 says “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” If l swap that word faith again to gamble it still makes sense to me. “Now gambling is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen”.

Personally l’d rather place my hope in the God of all creation, than in dumb luck.

What do you reckon? Love to hear your thoughts. I’ve included a song we recorded a while back. Hope you enjoy it! https://open.spotify.com/track/2YD0A69BYXGFqeE0BYOvPc?si=1f9b736726264062
